Inflammatory Fibroid Polyp of the Jejunum Causing Intussusception -A case report-

Abstract
Inflammatory fibroid polyp(IFP) is a rare localized lesion originating from the submucosa of the gastrointestinal tract. It is seen mostly in the stomach and rarely along small bowel. The lesion in small bowel is usually located in the ileum and
manifested as bowel obstruction. We report a case of IFP of the jejunum causing intussusception in a 60-year-old male who presented with mechanical obstruction. The plain X-ray of abdomen showed multiple air-fiuid levels and distended small
bowel.
At
laparotomy, a jejunojejunal intussusception was noted with a 2¡¿2cm sized intraluminal obstructing mass. The segment of jejunum containing the mass was resected. The lesion was pathologically confirmed as an IFP which was composed of fibrous and
loose
stroma, many vasculatures, and infiltration of inflammatory cells. We consider this rare polyp should be include in differential diagnosis of small bowel obstruction.
